I have been practicing Yoga for over 17 years. It was first introduced to me when I was 17 years old and attending Augustana University. A drama professor had a guest teach us Yoga for a production of ‘Conference of the Birds’. We used it as a preliminary warm up before practice and performance to enable a limber body, avoiding injury and to focus. I found it very useful and began to seek out various different classes and forms of Yoga throughout Canada. I find that now, in my 30’s I especially enjoy Hatha Yoga & Yoga Nidra.

In 2008, I was working (and not working) as an actress and I found that I was beginning to lack motivation and excitement about life. I had been informed that a friends father, a professor of Inter-religious dialogue from the University of Windsor was taking a group to India for a tour. I would not describe myself as religious but I am always interested and open to new philosophies and I was interested in doing a Yoga teacher training in India at the end of the tour. The trip was very inspiring and I enrolled in the SIVANANDA TTC in Madurai, Tamil Nadu as I had heard that Swami Govindananda was an exceptional teacher. This was true, the experience helped me to change my perspective, find motivation and begin to discover a purpose for my life.

I practice and teach asanas and work to integrate yoga philosophy into my lifestyle. I continue to be impressed by what Yoga has to offer and I am honestly somewhat disappointed of what some people have to offer in the name of Yoga. Yoga needs to be safe and practical, i practice asana to release stress and find a calm stillness. For me, yoga enables awareness in my every day life, so i can be present and have integrity in my relationships and focus on my daily tasks.  I am very monkey minded …  I am not perfect in any way and yoga has helped me be ok with that;)
